Thailand Achieves First Domestic Robotic Telesurgery

Nopparat Rajathanee Hospital in Bangkok and Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, about 250 km apart, were connected for prostate cancer surgery with the Toumai® Surgical System.

On August 24, Thailand successfully completed its first domestic robotic telesurgery using the Toumai® Surgical System.

The procedure connected Nopparat Rajathanee Hospital in Bangkok with Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, approximately 250 km apart. Dr. Peeradon Sapermsup remotely operated the system in collaboration with Dr. Nipon Suparatanachatphan and Dr. Tanatorn Termkaisi to perform prostate cancer surgery.

Thai Minister of Public Health Pattana Promphat attended the event together with officials from the Ministry of Public Health, the Department of Medical Services, hospital executives, physicians and medical staff.

The milestone follows previous cross-border telesurgery performed with Toumai®, connecting Thailand and China across distances of up to approximately 3,000 km.

This achievement marks another important step in Thailand's telesurgery development, demonstrating how robotic technology can overcome geographical barriers and expand access to specialised surgical expertise.
